Candle fragrance load calculator
200.00 g of wax and 20.00 g of fragrance oil make 220.00 g: a fragrance load of 10.00 % and a fragrance content of 9.09 %.

How it works
Fragrance load is the oil as a share of the wax alone. Fragrance content is the oil as a share of wax plus oil, so the same oil gives a smaller content than load. Use it to work out how much fragrance oil goes into candles of any size. The tool works from whichever weights you know, shows both percentages and, if you enter the maximum your wax supplier states, tells you when you are over it.
Formula
Fragrance load = oil / wax. Fragrance content = oil / (wax + oil). Mode oil_for_wax: W = wax_mass, O = W x load, T = W + O. Mode oil_for_total: T = total_mass, O = T x content, W = T - O. Mode load_from_oil: W = wax_mass, O = oil_mass, T = W + O. Always: load_out = O / W, content_out = O / T. With compare_max = yes: max_oil = W x max_load, and the warning w_over_max is raised when load_out > max_load (relative tolerance 1e-9). The maximum is the user's own figure from the wax supplier; the tool contains no limit of its own.
Worked example

| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| What you know | Wax weight and load |
| Weight of wax | 200 g |
| Fragrance load | 10 % |
| Compare with a maximum | No |
| Fragrance oil | 20.00 g |
| Wax | 200.00 g |
Common cases
| Case | Starting values | Fragrance oil | Wax |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two hundred grams at ten percent | Weight of wax 200 g; Fragrance load 10 % | 20.00 g | 200.00 g |
| Fill weight known, content | Total weight 220 g; Fragrance content 10 % | 22.00 g | 198.00 g |
| Check the oil I added | Weight of wax 450 g; Oil added 36 g; Maximum load 8 % | 36.00 g | 450.00 g |
| One pound of wax | Weight of wax 453.59237 g; Fragrance load 6 % | 27.22 g | 453.59 g |
Assumptions and limits
- Load is relative to the wax only and content is relative to wax plus oil. Check which one your supplier or recipe means.
- The maximum is the figure you enter from your wax supplier's sheet. Sources disagree between waxes and brands, so this tool does not suggest one.
- Weigh the oil and wax on a scale; measuring oil by volume is not accurate enough for a known percentage.
- A small test candle is the only way to know how a particular wax and oil behave together.
The result is an estimate for planning, not professional advice.
